Во името на Отецот и Синот и Св. Дух!
Драги браќа и сестри,
Оваа недела, која преставува средина на Великата Четириесетница, уште се нарекува Крстопоклона недела, затоа што за време на Утрената, светиот Крст се изнесува на поклонение насреде црква. Во Светото писмо, нашиот Спасител, Господ Исус Христос, вели: „Кој сака да врви по Мене, нека се одрече од себе, и нека го земе крстот свој и нека оди по Мене” (Мк. 8, 34). Какво значење имаат овие зборови на нашиот Спасител? Одговорот може да биде најразличен. Некои ќе кажат: Па има луѓе кои страдаат во овој свет. Но, страдаат поради нивните престапи и поради нивните лоши дела. Треба да знаеме дека таквите луѓе не го носат Христовиот крст, туку, добиваат заслужена казна за нивните недела.
Се поставува прашањето: Тогаш, што значи, да се следи Христос? Да се следи Христос и да се носи сопствениот крст значи да се живее според учењето на светата Црква. Да се живее во покајание, исповедание и во правење добри дела. Да се живее во поднесување на сите страдања и маки, од љубов, поради Христа. Најдобар пример за тоа ни покажал Господ Исус Христос, Оној, Кој немаше никаков грев. Оној, Кој правеше само добро во овој свет, но пострада како да е најголем престапник и грешник, со распнување на крст. Сето тоа го поднесе заради нас, луѓето, и за да ја исполни волјата на Оној Кој Го испрати, за да го исполни Неговото дело (Јн. 4, 34). Христос „Сам се смири, откако стана послушен дури до самата смрт, и тоа смрт на крст” (Филип. 2, 8). Така нѐ научи сите, со Својот пример, како доликува да Му угодуваме на Бога. Тоа значи да ги поднесуваме сите страдања, неправди и искушенија, и така да ја исполниме волјата Божја.
Повторно ќе го поставиме прашањето: Што значи, да се следи Христос? Да се следи Христос во добротворието и да поднесуваме секакви непријатности заради исполнување на волјата Божја. Христос пострада заради нас и ни остави пример како да постапуваме за да одиме по Неговиот пат. Ќе Го следиме Христа ако правиме добро и доколку страдаме, без наша вина, поднесувајќи маки поради љубовта кон Бога, поради онаа љубов каква што имаше Христос кон Својот Отец Небесен. Господ Христос, од љубов кон нас недостојните пострада и претрпе распнување за да нѐ спаси и да нѐ избави. Па така, и секој христијанин кој поднесува неправди и страдања со трпение и со смиреност, Го следи Христа и го носи својот крст и врви по тесниот Христов пат, одејќи во царството Божјо и кон вечниот живот.
Вистинскиот христијанин се уподобува на Христа, онака како што се уподобуваат војниците на својот цар. Тие се смируваат пониско од сите, но, Бог ќе ги воздигне повисоко од сите (1. Јован 4, 4). За оние што Го следат Христа во овој свет и за наградата што ќе ја добијат, најдобро ни зборува апостолот на народите: Тие се смртни на оваа земја, бидејќи нивната татковина е на небото. Живеат на земјата, но нивното престојување е на небесата од каде што Го очекуваат Спасителот (Филип. 3, 20). Одат со искинати алишта, но од внатре се облечени со царска облека. Не бараат богатства на земјата, но пред нив ќе се отворат небесните ризници (2. Кор. 4, 7). Тука биваат гонети и протерувани, но таму Бог ќе ги прими (2. Кор. 2, 17). Светот ги осудува, но Бог ќе ги оправда (Рим. 8, 30 – 33). Светот ги проколнува, но Бог ги благословува (Ефес. 1, 3). Светот ги нажалува, но Бог ќе ги успокои (2. Кор. 1, 4).
Да Го следиме Христа, не со светските похоти и страсти, туку, да се откажеме од нив, па дури и самите од себе и да Го следиме Христа. Не е доволно да Го следиме Христа само телесно, туку и со срце и душа, односно со вера, љубов и со трпение. Со кротост и смирение, претрпувајќи секакви неправди заради Христа. Каде што сега е Самиот Он, таму ќе ги поведе и последователите, според Неговото ветување „Кој ми служи Мене, нека врви по Мене, и каде што сум Јас, таму ќе биде и Мојот слуга. И кој Ми служи Мене, него ќе го уважува и Мојот Отец” (Јн. 12, 26).
Да се следи Господ Исус Христос, тоа значи да се оди по тесниот Христов пат. Тоа подразбира да се одречеме од стариот човек и да се облечеме во нов. Тоа ќе го постигнеме кога, од нас, ќе ги отфрлиме гордоста, среброљубието, славољубието, сладострастието, гневот, зависта. Да ги закопаме, да ги отфрлиме и да тргнеме по Христа. Господ Христос ни покажа најдобар пат на смирение и трпение. Само Неговиот пат е вистински кој води од земјата кон небото и во вечниот живот.
Па и ние денеска, кои сме собрани во овој храм, да се обратиме со искрена молитва кон Господа Христа. Да ни ја зацврсти верата, засили надежта, умножи љубовта, па достоинствено да го изодиме останатиот период на Великиот пост, и како вистински Христови следбеници да го дочекаме и прославиме и светлото победоносно Христово Воскресение. O Lord, save Thy people and bless Thine inheritance. Grant victory over their enemies to Orthodox Christians, and protect Thy people with Thy Cross.

O Christ our God, Who wast voluntarily lifted up on the Cross, grant Thy mercies to Thy new people named after Thee. Gladden with Thy power Orthodox Christians and give them victory over their enemies. May they have as an ally that invincible trophy, Thy weapon of peace.
Another Kontakion, Tone VII
No longer does the flaming sword guard the gate of Eden, for a glorious extinction has come upon it, the wood of the Cross. The sting has been drawn from death and the victory from hell. And Thou, my Saviour, didst come and shout to those in hell: Enter Paradise again.
Mark 8:34-9:1

When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Dear brothers and sisters,
This Sunday, which delineates the middle of the Great Lent, is also called Sunday of Adoration of the Cross, because during the Morning prayers, the Holy Cross is taken out to be worshiped in the middle of the church. In the Holy Scriptures, our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, says: “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” (Mark 8:34).
What is the meaning of these words of our Saviour? The answer may be diverse in nature. Some will say: “Why are there people who suffer in this world.” But they suffer because of their transgressions and their bad deeds. We need to know that such people do not bear the cross of Christ , but they receive a deserved punishment for their misconduct.
The question arises: Then, what does it mean to follow Christ? To follow Christ and to carry your own cross means to live according to the teaching of the Holy Church. It means to live in repentance, confession and doing good deeds. To live in submission of all suffering and torment, because of love for Christ. The best example for this was shown by the Lord Jesus Christ, the One who had no sin. He, who did only good in this world, but suffered as if He was the greatest transgressor and sinner, crucified on the cross. He did all this for the sake of us, the people, and to fulfil the will of Him, who sent Him, to fulfil His work (John 4:34). Christ, “He humbled Himself, and He became obedient to the point of death, even to death on the cross.” (Philippians 2: 8) He taught all of us, by His example, the way and to be worthy and to please God. It means to endure all sufferings, injustices and temptations, and thus, to fulfil the will of God.
Again we ask the question: “What does it mean to follow Christ?” To follow Christ is manifest in the good deeds and endurance (tolerance) of any inconvenience for the fulfilment of the will of God. Christ suffered for us and left us an example of how to act in order to walk on His path. We will follow Christ if we do good and if we suffer, without it being our fault, enduring tortures for the love towards God, because of that love which Christ had towards His Heavenly Father. The Lord Christ, out of love for us unworthy, suffered and endured crucifixion in order to save us and deliver us. Thus, every Christian who tolerates injustice and suffering with patience and humbleness, follows Christ and carries his own cross and follows (walks on) the narrow path of Christ, which leads to the Kingdom of God and to eternal life.
The true Christian resembles Christ, just as the soldiers resemble their king. They bow down and humble themselves lower than all, but God will elevate them higher than all (1 John 4, 4). For those who follow Christ in this world and for the reward they will receive is best described by the apostle of the nations: “They are dead on this earth, because their homeland is in heaven. They live on this earth, but their dwelling is in the heavens from where they await the Saviour.” (Philippians 3:20). “They go with torn clothes, but inside they are dressed in king’s clothes. They do not seek riches on earth, but heavenly treasures will open before them.” (2 Corinthians 4, 8) “Here they are persecuted and expelled, but there God will receive them.” (2 Corinthians 2, 17) “The world condemns them, but God will justify them.” (Romans 8, 30 – 33) “The world curses them, but God blesses them.” (Ephesians 1: 3) “The world saddens them, but God will comfort them.” (2 Cor. 1, 4)
Let us follow Christ, not with worldly lusts and passions, but to renounce them, and even ourselves, and let us follow Christ. It is not enough to follow Christ only physically, but also with a heart and soul, that is, by faith, love and patience. By meekness and humility, enduring all sorts of injustices for Christ. Where He is now, He will also lead the followers, according to His promise, “Whoever serves me, let him follow me, and where I am, my servant will also be there. And whoever serves Me, My Father will acknowledge Him (John 12, 26).
In order to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, it means walking the narrow path of Christ. It means to deny the old man and to put on a new one. We will achieve this when, we reject outright; pride, covetousness, vainglory, gluttony, anger, envy. Let us bury them, let us reject them and let us follow Christ. Lord Christ has shown us the best way of humility and patience. Only His path is the true path that leads from earth to heaven and to eternal life.
Today, we ,who are congregated in this temple, let us plead with sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus; to reinforce our faith, to strengthen our hope, to multiply our love, so that we can walk worthily, the rest of the Great Lent, and as true followers of Christ to welcome and celebrate the Resurrection of the Holy and Victorious Christ. Amen!
